Google Classroom and Google+ Communities: Promoting Collaboration and Online Learning

This online course, taught by an authorized Google Education Trainer, will give participants a chance to explore and test Google Classroom and its many functionalities.  Participants will collaborate and complete assignments in Google Classroom, and will have the opportunity to set up their own online classrooms to experiment and learn how it works.  Teachers will understand and investigate the latest updates to Google Classroom and critically review them.  They will share their reviews and provide feedback to their peers via Google Classroom and Google+ Communities.  In addition, the class will briefly focus on how to create Google+ communities.  Teachers can use Google+ communities to collaborate with peers as well as a private forum where students can collaborate, display work, and comment.  Participants meet virtually via online communities to discuss and share lessons and strategies.    REGISTER


Enhancing Pedagogy With Google Apps for Education

This online course, taught by an authorized Google Education Trainer, will cover fundamental knowledge and skills needed by teachers who wish to introduce Google Apps for Education into their classroom.  This class will focus on Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Forms, Google Sheets, Google Sites, Google Calendar, as well as many other Web 2.0 applications and websites useful for teachers and students alike.  The course will focus on the various collaboration and sharing permissions the apps allow, and how to leverage them to make your practice more efficient and effective.  The course will include hands-on development of websites and educational computer applications for use by teachers, administrators and students.  This course will better prepare educators to attain their Google Educator certification.  Participants meet virtually via online communities to discuss and share lessons and strategies.  REGISTER



Google Chrome Extensions: Leveraging Instructional Technology to Advance the Learning Experience

Unleash the power of the Google Chrome browser!  Google Chrome extensions are like superpowers for your web browser, literally extending the capabilities of the browser.  In this online course, taught by a certified Google for Education Trainer, teachers will explore the latest and greatest Chrome extensions that are designed for educators and students.  Participants will examine Chrome extensions have the ability to curate information, create interactive dynamic lessons, create screencasts, and increase efficiency.  Other extensions that will be investigated have the ability to enhance student creativity, increase organization, and boost the overall productivity of both students and teachers.  Participants will create lesson plans using these extensions and share them with peers via discussion boards.  This course is filled with meaningful, cutting edge skills and strategies that will prove to be invaluable in the integration of technology into the classroom.  Participants meet virtually via online communities to discuss and share lessons and strategies.  A proficient working knowledge of Google Apps is recommended before taking this course.

Assisting Special Needs Learners with Instructional Technology  
One of the most meaningful ways we can leverage instructional technology is to use it to help special needs learners reach their goals. In this course, taught by a Google for Education Certified Trainer, teachers will explore and analyze a multitude of educational technology tools that can assist and support special needs learners.  These tools can be used by anyone, not just special needs learners.  Participants will examine Chrome Browser accessibility features and Chrome Browser Extensions that bring extra functionality to the web for people with disabilities such as visual impairment, hearing loss, and limited dexterity.  Other tools that will be investigated have the ability to assist students with reading and writing, help with behavior and classroom management, and help students on the autism spectrum.  Participants will create lesson plans using these tools and share them with peers via discussion boards.  Participants meet virtually via online communities to discuss and share lessons and strategies.  REGISTER



​Visual Learners in the Digital Age: Digital Storytelling, Infographics, and Other Web 2.0 Tools
In his theory of multiple intelligences, Dr. Howard Gardner of Harvard suggests that “students possess different kinds of minds and therefore learn, remember, perform, and understand in different ways”.  Visual/spatial intelligence is the ability to perceive, use, and understand images and patterns and to think in terms of physical space.  In this highly entertaining and engaging course, taught by a Google Certified Trainer, participants will explore tools that support visual/spatial teaching and learning.  Participants will create lesson plans with creative web tools that aid in the creation of infographics, visuals, multimedia, and other digital products.  Participants will collaborate and share their lessons with each other.  Tools that will be investigated include PowToons, Google Drawings, PiktoChart, and ThingLink, among others.  Participants meet virtually via online communities to discuss and share lessons and strategies.       REGISTER


Collaborative Learning Environments:  Virtual Partners in Teaching and Learning

Collaboration teaches us how to use the people around us as a resource.  Collaborating outside of the classroom has become much easier to facilitate for both teachers and students as a result of the multitude of online platforms that allow for either synchronous or asynchronous communication. The goal is to foster student learning and encourage creativity, critical thinking and interactive discussion.  This course, which is taught by a Google Certified Educator, will highlight some effective tools to help us become partners in teaching and learning. We will explore blogging platforms, website creation, social networking sites, cloud storage tools, podcasts, online discussion forums & hangouts, wikispaces, games, backchannels, and mind mapping. Many of these platforms also have built in tracking tools to encourage participation by all students.  Participants will create lesson plans that foster collaboration between students and also discover tools to collaborate with other educators worldwide.     REGISTER


Enhancing the Reading Classroom with Technology

Technology can take students’ reading engagement to new heights and offer them ways to collaborate no matter how quiet the voice.  In this course, teachers will explore technology tools used to encourage collaboration in reading. Learn how technology supports higher level thinking and how it allows the teacher to learn more about the students in their class. Participants will examine different online tools, participate in discussions on the best uses of these tools, interact with peers as if they are a student in their own class, and create a lesson plan that incorporates technology in literacy.  REGISTER


Game-Based Learning: Unleashing the Power of Gaming in the Classroom

Game-based learning is one of the hottest topics in education technology today. In this innovative online course, participants will learn how to take something students HAVE to do and turn it into something they GET to do. Educators will explore the most engaging and exciting game-based learning applications available to classroom teachers today. These awesome apps make learning fun, meaningful and exciting. Educators will learn how to use Kahoot, Quizizz, Quizlet Live, Breakout EDU Digital, Classcraft and many other web-based applications to unleash the superhero in each and every student. Participants will play, create and share their games virtually via online communities.

Genius Hour:  Inquiry-Based Technology-Infused Learning in the Classroom

It is imperative for teachers to provide opportunities for student voice and choice in the 21st-century classroom. If students have some control over what is covered, they’re more likely to stay tuned in and actively engage in the learning process. This interactive online course will give educators a deeper understanding of Genius Hour, an inquiry-based, student-directed learning experience, and its application in K-12 classrooms. Participants will join in a hands-on, high-tech exploration of the latest digital tools and resources available for Genius Hour in the classroom. Attendees will collaborate and innovate virtually as they discover new ways for students to curate, create and share digital content.

Getting the Most out of Google Chrome

Instructor: Kelly Fitzgerald

Chrome is a powerful web browser with capabilities far beyond a basic search. In this online course, taught by a certified Google for Education Trainer, teachers will discover the power of Chrome. Participants will begin by customizing their browser to create a unique and individualized experience. Through advance search tips, users will learn how to narrow down their search to get the most relevant information. Participants will learn how to check sources and create their own search engine. The course will conclude with a study of Chrome extensions and apps that can be used to help get the most out of Chrome. To be successful in this course, participants will need a Mac, PC, or Chromebook (iPads and Phones are not compatible with this course). Participants meet virtually via online communities to discuss and share lessons and strategies.

Instructional Technology for Flipped Learning:  Interactive Engagement & Informative Feedback

Flipped learning is a dynamic approach that is used to empower learners through the fostering of an individualized and customized learning space. It allows teachers to redefine their instruction while giving students the autonomy to move at their own pace, revisit important material, and achieve mastery. This innovative course will explore the concept and practical application of flipped learning and provide an overview of various programs and applications used in the creation process. Participants will be guided through the production of their own flipped lessons while learning how to incorporate elements of interactivity, assessment, data collection and feedback.     REGISTER
