Google Classroom and Google+ Communities: Promoting Collaboration and Online Learning

This online course, taught by an authorized Google Education Trainer, will give participants a chance to explore and test Google Classroom and its many functionalities.  Participants will collaborate and complete assignments in Google Classroom, and will have the opportunity to set up their own online classrooms to experiment and learn how it works.  Teachers will understand and investigate the latest updates to Google Classroom and critically review them.  They will share their reviews and provide feedback to their peers via Google Classroom and Google+ Communities.  In addition, the class will briefly focus on how to create Google+ communities.  Teachers can use Google+ communities to collaborate with peers as well as a private forum where students can collaborate, display work, and comment.  Participants meet virtually via online communities to discuss and share lessons and strategies.    REGISTER

G Suite for Education: Integration and Application for Educators
The use of technology in education provides incredible opportunities to engage students in authentic learning, as well as collaborate with peers like never before.  This course, taught by an authorized Google for Education Certified Trainer, will cover fundamental knowledge, skills, and strategies needed by teachers who wish to use the latest G Suite Tools and apply their learning in the classroom.  This class will focus on G Suite for Education, including Google Calendar, Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Forms, Google+, and Google Sites.  Participants will create websites and evaluate how other Web 2.0 applications could be used to enhance student learning.   The course will include hands-on development educational computer applications for use by teachers, administrators and students.  Participants meet virtually via online communities to discuss and share lessons and strategies on how to show students to  leverage these technologies to enhance learning.  Participants will create lesson plans that incorporate these technologies.  REGISTER

Google Chrome Extensions: Leveraging Instructional Technology to Advance the Learning Experience

Unleash the power of the Google Chrome browser!  Google Chrome extensions are like superpowers for your web browser, literally extending the capabilities of the browser.  In this online course, taught by a certified Google for Education Trainer, teachers will explore the latest and greatest Chrome extensions that are designed for educators and students.  Participants will examine Chrome extensions have the ability to curate information, create interactive dynamic lessons, create screencasts, and increase efficiency.  Other extensions that will be investigated have the ability to enhance student creativity, increase organization, and boost the overall productivity of both students and teachers.  Participants will create lesson plans using these extensions and share them with peers via discussion boards.  This course is filled with meaningful, cutting edge skills and strategies that will prove to be invaluable in the integration of technology into the classroom.  Participants meet virtually via online communities to discuss and share lessons and strategies.  A proficient working knowledge of Google Apps is recommended before taking this course.

Assisting Special Needs Learners with Instructional Technology  
One of the most meaningful ways we can leverage instructional technology is to use it to help special needs learners reach their goals. In this course, taught by a Google for Education Certified Trainer, teachers will explore and analyze a multitude of educational technology tools that can assist and support special needs learners.  These tools can be used by anyone, not just special needs learners.  Participants will examine Chrome Browser accessibility features and Chrome Browser Extensions that bring extra functionality to the web for people with disabilities such as visual impairment, hearing loss, and limited dexterity.  Other tools that will be investigated have the ability to assist students with reading and writing, help with behavior and classroom management, and help students on the autism spectrum.  Participants will create lesson plans using these tools and share them with peers via discussion boards.  Participants meet virtually via online communities to discuss and share lessons and strategies.  REGISTER

​Visual Learners in the Digital Age: Digital Storytelling, Infographics, and Other Web 2.0 Tools
In his theory of multiple intelligences, Dr. Howard Gardner of Harvard suggests that “students possess different kinds of minds and therefore learn, remember, perform, and understand in different ways”.  Visual/spatial intelligence is the ability to perceive, use, and understand images and patterns and to think in terms of physical space.  In this highly entertaining and engaging course, taught by a Google Certified Trainer, participants will explore tools that support visual/spatial teaching and learning.  Participants will create lesson plans with creative web tools that aid in the creation of infographics, visuals, multimedia, and other digital products.  Participants will collaborate and share their lessons with each other.  Tools that will be investigated include PowToons, Google Drawings, PiktoChart, and ThingLink, among others.  Participants meet virtually via online communities to discuss and share lessons and strategies.       REGISTER

Enhancing the Reading Classroom with Technology

Technology can take students’ reading engagement to new heights and offer them ways to collaborate no matter how quiet the voice.  In this course, teachers will explore technology tools used to encourage collaboration in reading. Learn how technology supports higher level thinking and how it allows the teacher to learn more about the students in their class. Participants will examine different online tools, participate in discussions on the best uses of these tools, interact with peers as if they are a student in their own class, and create a lesson plan that incorporates technology in literacy.  REGISTER

Game-Based Learning: Unleashing the Power of Gaming in the Classroom

Game-based learning is one of the hottest topics in education technology today. In this innovative online course, participants will learn how to take something students HAVE to do and turn it into something they GET to do. Educators will explore the most engaging and exciting game-based learning applications available to classroom teachers today. These awesome apps make learning fun, meaningful and exciting. Educators will learn how to use Kahoot, Quizizz, Quizlet Live, Breakout EDU Digital, Classcraft and many other web-based applications to unleash the superhero in each and every student. Participants will play, create and share their games virtually via online communities.


Genius Hour:  Inquiry-Based Technology-Infused Learning in the Classroom

It is imperative for teachers to provide opportunities for student voice and choice in the 21st-century classroom. If students have some control over what is covered, they’re more likely to stay tuned in and actively engage in the learning process. This interactive online course will give educators a deeper understanding of Genius Hour, an inquiry-based, student-directed learning experience, and its application in K-12 classrooms. Participants will join in a hands-on, high-tech exploration of the latest digital tools and resources available for Genius Hour in the classroom. Attendees will collaborate and innovate virtually as they discover new ways for students to curate, create and share digital content.


Getting the Most out of Google Chrome

Instructor: Kelly Fitzgerald

Chrome is a powerful web browser with capabilities far beyond a basic search. In this online course, taught by a certified Google for Education Trainer, teachers will discover the power of Chrome. Participants will begin by customizing their browser to create a unique and individualized experience. Through advance search tips, users will learn how to narrow down their search to get the most relevant information. Participants will learn how to check sources and create their own search engine. The course will conclude with a study of Chrome extensions and apps that can be used to help get the most out of Chrome. To be successful in this course, participants will need a Mac, PC, or Chromebook (iPads and Phones are not compatible with this course). Participants meet virtually via online communities to discuss and share lessons and strategies.   


Instructional Technology for Flipped Learning:  Interactive Engagement & Informative Feedback

Flipped learning is a dynamic approach that is used to empower learners through the fostering of an individualized and customized learning space. It allows teachers to redefine their instruction while giving students the autonomy to move at their own pace, revisit important material, and achieve mastery. This innovative course will explore the concept and practical application of flipped learning and provide an overview of various programs and applications used in the creation process. Participants will be guided through the production of their own flipped lessons while learning how to incorporate elements of interactivity, assessment, data collection and feedback.     REGISTER

Using G Suite To Enhance the 6-12 Math Classroom

This online course will cover concepts and skills needed by teachers who are ready to introduce or go further with G Suite for Education in their mathematics classroom.  This class will focus on effective integration methods, Chrome Extensions specific to mathematics learning and instruction, Google Docs add-ons that enhance and simplify mathematical engagement in a digital environment, Google Slides, Google Sheets, and well as many other Web 2.0 applications and websites useful for teachers and students alike.  The course will focus on ways G Suite can be used in a mathematics classroom immediately and will allow for deeper investigation into using G Suite to transform mathematics instruction.  The course will include hands-on development of activities, resources, and investigation of educational applications for use by teachers and students.  Participants meet virtually via online communities to discuss and share lessons and strategies.  REGISTER

Instant Relevance, Using Today's Experiences To Teach Tomorrow's Lessons

Instant Relevance is the idea that every day, teachers and students experience moments that can and should be used in their classrooms as soon as the very next day. Creating valuable, memorable, and connected lessons requires seizing opportunities as they occur and building strong relationships with your students. In this course Denis Sheeran, author of the book Instant Relevance, will take you through seven areas you can use to increase the relevance of your lessons. Participants will investigate ways to make teaching connections to their own lives and interests, their students lives and interests, and those interests and events we have in common. Participants will create lesson plans from these experiences and share them with their peers via discussion boards. This course is filled with methods and strategies for enhancing the student experience in your classroom and going beyond the basic use of textbook resources. Participants are expected to share ideas, strategies, comments, and lessons via online communities and discussions. Although a working knowledge of Google G Suite products is not necessary for this course, it may prove helpful.  REGISTER 

21st Century Tools for Engagement

This online course, taught by an authorized Google Education Trainer and Innovator, will cover fundamental knowledge and skills needed by teachers who wish to reach their students.  Is is an introduction to essential tools for educators.  Engagement is the key to education. If your students aren’t engaged, then nothing else matters.  Using tools such as GSuite, Twitter, Ted Talks, YouTube and more will engage your students.  Participants will work collaboratively to build collections of useful tools for their teaching.  Tools for assessment, creation, and accessibility will also be covered.  Participants meet virtually via online communities to discuss and share lessons and strategies.  REGISTER

Digital Natives to Digital Citizens: Strategies for Digital Literacy in Every Classroom

Student led discussion groups epitomize student-centered, collaborative learning in all content areas, and when infused with technology, the learning experience is transformed!  Join in a discover of web-based applications including AnswerGarden, Padlet, Google Docs, Seesaw, Recap and TodaysMeet.  Learn how these applications and platforms enhance the discussion group experience for students AND teachers.  This session will sow educators how technology can be used to empower students by exposing them to a variety of web-based applications that can be easily deployed in any classroom.  With these digital tools, students can easily collaborate with their peers, share work with authentic audiences and create content in a 21st century learning environment.  Additionally, it will demonstrate how to design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments in order to transform the learning culture in their own schools and classrooms.  Authentic examples will be shared so that all educators can come away with ready-to-use activities and resources. Diving Deeper with Digital Devices:Storytelling Choices and Reflection Tools

Engage your students with awesome digital storytelling and reflection tools that reinforce curriculum concepts.  In this course, taught by a Certified Google Trainer, educator and k12 Digital Learning Coach, participants will explore a variety of digital storytelling tools, applicable to any curriculum or age.   In addition, participants will learn to use web-based games and exit ticket tools that reflect upon topics explored throughout the course, first as participants and later in the course as creators when they build their own examples.  This course is filled with meaningful, cutting edge skills, and strategies that will prove to be invaluable for teaching and learning. The course provides choice in tools for digital storytelling and content reflection.  Student choice is student voice: explore these tools and share some of your own favorites.  Participants can tap into tools shared in this course or explore something new, provided objectives are met. Writing = Thinking: Strategies for All Content Areas

The act of thinking is invisible, which makes it difficult to fully understand the learning that is taking place in our students. As educators, it is our job to ensure that the invisible thinking turns into visible products. In this online course, taught by a certified Google for Education Trainer, teachers will learn writing strategies that can be utilized in all content areas from 3rd through 12th grade. Participants will be introduced to resources and digital tools that promote writing to learn, brainstorming, questioning, vocabulary development, creative expression, and more, To be successful in this course, participants will need a Mac, PC, or Chromebook (iPads and Phones are not recommended for this course). Participants may not copy any parts of another (present or past) participant and submit that work as their own. Participants are also barred from collaborating on any assessment that is intended to be completed individually, unless first getting permission from the instructor. Participants who fail to meet Ed Technology Specialists’ academic integrity standards will receive a failing grade for their course and may not be allowed to take further courses with Ed Technology Specialists.
